Getting Started

Stratum's platform provides a unified API for managing edge compute clusters, backup policies, and payment automation. You can begin by provisioning your first edge node or configuring your backup posture through the CLI or web console.

Authentication

All API requests require a bearer token obtained through OAuth 2.0. Tokens can be generated in the Stratum Console under Settings → API Keys. Scopes include edge:read, backup:admin, and finance:write.

Edge Compute API

Deploy and manage edge nodes programmatically. Endpoints include cluster provisioning, firmware updates, node health checks, and fleet-wide configuration rollouts. Self-healing can be configured per-node or at the fleet level.

Data Resilience API

Configure backup policies, run compliance audits, and query backed-up data using standard SQL over the Stratum Data Lake connector. Supports AWS, Azure, and GCP resource types natively.

Financial Ops API

Create invoices, initiate payments, and reconcile transactions through the payment network. Webhooks are available for real-time status updates. All operations produce immutable audit trail entries.

SDKs & Libraries

Official SDKs are available for Python, Node.js, Go, and Java. Community-contributed libraries for Rust and Ruby are also available on GitHub.

Stratum Raises $86M Series B to Scale Distributed Operations

We're doubling down on the platform that unifies edge, data, and finance.

February 6, 2026

Enterprise cloud spending has crossed $700 billion annually, and by most estimates, somewhere between 10% and 30% of that goes directly to backup and disaster recovery. That's an enormous line item — and for the majority of organizations, it's a pure cost center producing almost zero operational value.

The fundamental problem isn't that companies aren't backing up their data. They are, often aggressively. The problem is that backup data is a black box. It's stored as opaque snapshots that can't be searched, queried, or analyzed without full restoration — a process that can take days or even weeks depending on the volume.

The snapshot trap

Legacy backup tools were designed for a world of on-premises servers and tape archives. They work by duplicating entire volumes at scheduled intervals, regardless of what data has changed or how critical it is. The result is massive redundancy, ballooning storage costs, and a growing archive that nobody can actually use.

When a compliance team needs to pull records from six months ago, or a data engineer wants to train a model on historical transaction data, they face the same wall: restore the entire snapshot, spin up compute resources, and manually extract what they need. It's the operational equivalent of burning down your house to make toast.

Backups as live infrastructure

At Stratum, we take a fundamentally different approach. Our data resilience layer treats backup storage as a live, queryable tier — not a dormant archive. Every backed-up resource is automatically classified, deduplicated, and stored in open columnar formats that can be queried directly through your existing analytics tools.

This means your Snowflake instance or Databricks workspace can access six months of historical data without a single ETL pipeline, staging server, or manual restore. The backup itself becomes the data lake.

What this looks like in practice

One of our manufacturing customers, Veritas MFG, was spending roughly $340,000 per year on backup storage across three cloud providers. After migrating to Stratum's data resilience layer, they reduced that cost by 42% through intelligent deduplication alone. But the bigger win was operational: their data team gained instant SQL access to two years of production data that had previously been completely inaccessible.

Their compliance audits, which used to take three weeks of manual data gathering, now complete in under four hours. That's not an incremental improvement — it's a category shift.

The bottom line

If your backups are sitting in opaque snapshot vaults that nobody can access without a week-long restoration process, you're not protecting your data — you're paying to forget it. The next generation of cloud infrastructure demands that backup data be live, searchable, and ready for analytics and AI workloads from the moment it's stored.

When we started building Stratum's edge compute layer, we had a thesis: the biggest barrier to edge adoption isn't hardware or software — it's operational complexity. Running infrastructure at one or two sites is manageable. Running it at two thousand sites, most without dedicated IT staff, is a fundamentally different problem.

After three years and 2,400 production deployments across retail, manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics, we've learned a few things about what it takes to run infrastructure that truly operates itself.

Lesson 1: Self-healing isn't optional, it's foundational

At a single data center, you can afford to have an engineer respond to a hardware failure within minutes. At a convenience store in rural Oklahoma at 2 AM, you can't. Every edge deployment must assume that no human will be available to intervene, and the system must recover autonomously.

Our self-healing architecture detects hardware degradation, automatically migrates workloads to healthy nodes, and flags the failed component for replacement — all without any downtime. Across our fleet, the mean time to automated recovery is under 90 seconds.

Lesson 2: Zero-touch deployment is a prerequisite for scale

If deploying a new edge site requires a skilled technician to configure networking, install software, and validate the setup, you'll never scale past a few hundred locations. Our zero-touch provisioning system allows a new node to be plugged in by anyone — a store manager, a warehouse worker, a contractor — and it automatically joins the fleet, pulls its configuration, and starts running workloads within minutes.

Lesson 3: The fleet is the unit of management

The biggest mindset shift in edge computing is moving from managing individual servers to managing fleets. Firmware updates, security patches, configuration changes, and application deployments all need to happen at fleet scale with rolling rollouts, automated canary testing, and instant rollback capabilities.

We've seen customers go from spending 30+ hours per week on edge infrastructure management to under 3 hours — not because the workload decreased, but because the fleet manages itself.

Most CFOs know exactly how much they spend on cloud infrastructure, software licenses, and headcount. But when we ask about payment processing costs, the answer is almost always a vague estimate. The reality is that B2B payment fees are one of the largest hidden costs in enterprise operations — and they scale linearly with revenue.

A company processing $50 million in annual B2B transactions through traditional card networks is paying between $1 million and $1.5 million in processing fees alone. That's money that comes directly off the bottom line, every single year, with no operational benefit in return.

Why B2B payments are stuck in the past

Consumer payments have been revolutionized over the last decade. B2B payments have not. Most businesses still rely on a combination of paper checks (yes, still), ACH transfers with multi-day settlement times, and credit card networks designed for $50 retail transactions — not $500,000 invoices.

The result is a system that's slow, expensive, and opaque. Finance teams spend hours reconciling payments manually, chasing late invoices, and managing the overhead of multiple payment channels.

The zero-fee model

Stratum's financial ops layer replaces legacy payment rails with an open digital network where B2B transactions carry zero processing fees. Instead of a per-transaction charge, the platform operates on a flat subscription model — so your payment costs stay fixed as revenue grows.

Smart routing automatically directs each payment through the most cost-effective channel, shifting expensive card payments to zero-fee digital rails without any change to the payer experience. Every transaction is recorded on an immutable ledger, creating a tamper-proof audit trail that syncs to your ERP in real time.

Impact at scale

NovaBright Retail Group, a Stratum customer with 800 locations, eliminated $420,000 in annual processing fees within six months of switching. Their days sales outstanding dropped from 47 to 19 days, freeing up significant working capital. And their finance team reclaimed 25 hours per week that had been spent on manual reconciliation.

Today we're announcing that Stratum has raised $86 million in Series B funding, led by Meridian Ventures with participation from returning investors Foundry Capital and Presidio Partners. This brings our total funding to $124 million.

When we founded Stratum in 2023, we saw a clear gap in the market: distributed enterprises were stitching together separate tools for edge infrastructure, cloud data protection, and financial operations — and the complexity was crushing them. We believed there had to be a better way.

What we've built

Stratum is the first platform to unify edge computing, data resilience, and B2B payment automation into a single operational layer. Our customers manage thousands of locations from one control plane, with self-healing infrastructure, intelligent backup management, and zero-fee payment processing built in from the ground up.

In the past year, we've grown from 400 to over 2,400 managed edge locations, expanded our data resilience layer to support all three major cloud providers, and processed over $1.2 billion in B2B transactions through our payment network.

Where we're going

This funding will accelerate three priorities. First, we're expanding our edge compute platform with new ruggedized hardware options for manufacturing and industrial environments. Second, we're deepening our data resilience capabilities with AI-powered anomaly detection and predictive backup policies. And third, we're building out our financial ops layer with support for international payments, multi-currency reconciliation, and deeper ERP integrations.

We're also growing the team significantly. We're hiring across engineering, product, sales, and customer success — and we're opening a new engineering hub in Austin to complement our existing offices in San Francisco and New York.

Thank you

To our customers, partners, and team: thank you for believing in this vision. The future of distributed operations is unified, automated, and intelligent — and we're building it together.

Our story

Our founding team spent a combined 40 years building and managing infrastructure for distributed organizations — from retail chains to manufacturing plants to healthcare networks. The pattern was always the same: separate tools for compute, data, and finance, stitched together with brittle integrations that broke at scale.

Stratum was born to fix that. We built a unified platform from the ground up, with edge computing, cloud data resilience, and B2B payment automation all sharing a single control plane, a single data model, and a single operational philosophy.

Our team

We're a team of 180 people across San Francisco, New York, and Austin. Our engineers come from AWS, Google Cloud, Stripe, and Cloudflare. Our operations team has managed infrastructure for some of the world's largest retailers and manufacturers. And our leadership team has collectively built three companies from zero to over $100M in ARR.

Our values

We build for operators. Every feature decision starts with the question: "Does this reduce operational complexity for a team managing thousands of locations?" If the answer is no, we don't build it. We believe in radical simplicity, relentless reliability, and transparent partnerships with our customers.
